Detroit’s craft beer industry is gearing up for the Detroit Fall Beer Festival this weekend with an early taste of six collaborative beers.
In August, six existing breweries teamed up with six forthcoming Detroit breweries to create original beer recipes for an annual event called the Detroit Beer Experiment. The Detroit Beer Experiment, which launched in 2016, transitioned into a friendly competition this year with partnering breweries competing for the best collaborative beer.
The winning team will be announced this Saturday during a Detroit Fall Beer Festival afterparty at 9 p.m. at Batch Brewing Company. The honorees will receive a newly dubbed James Beer Award plaque for their participation.
Throughout this week, existing breweries including Batch Brewing Co., Detroit Beer Co., Brew Detroit, Traffic Jam & Snug, Atwater Beer, and Motor City Brewing Co. will be featuring their unique collaboration beers on tap leading up to a final tasting at this weekend’s festival at Eastern Market (October 27-28). Batch Brewing Company will be offering a free shuttle to the festival all day on Saturday.
Beer fans are encouraged to weigh-in and cast votes through an online poll this week for their favorite collaborative brews. The polls close at 6 p.m. on October 28. Check out the full lineup of Detroit Beer Experiment beers below:
