Not too long ago, Memphis icon Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken caused a stir with the debut of its first Michigan location in Detroit’s Cass Corridor neighborhood. The spicy batter and juicy chicken quickly won over some critics who were wary of an out-of-town chain.

Franchisee Schmaltz Hospitality, operated by several metro Detroit partners including chef/restauranteur Zack Sklar, had previously confirmed plans for expansion to more than 30 locations across Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio, Colorado, and Florida.

Now, the restaurant group appears to be making moves in Michigan for a second time. According to Hometown Life, a second outpost of the popular chicken restaurant is expected to fill the former Cannon’s Irish Pub in Westland.

Reached by Eater, a representative for Gus’s declined to comment on the specifics of the project but did confirm that a new restaurant is in the works in Westland and is expected to land sometime within the first half of this year. Stay tuned for more details.
