BOOZE NEWS — Local bartender Chas Williams of The Oakland is collaborating with Detroit City Distillery in Eastern Market on a new locally distilled spirit — Shopkeeper’s Gin — which features grapefruit, juniper, coriander, orris root, and cinnamon. Williams, who won last year’s inaugural Ginsmith competition at DCD, will join the panel of judges for the 2016 competition when it kicks off on August 29.
DEVELOPMENTS — Grosse Pointe Park-based nonprofit Wolverine Human Services is getting into cider business. The group has submitted a request to the City of Detroit for the purchase of Core Orchards with the intent of breaking ground in September.
