After two weeks of closure, Maccabees at Midtown has returned rebranded as 5057 Viale, a "modern Italian" restaurant (note: the new website URL confusingly teases "modern organic Thai"). The eatery, which debuted in 2012 to positive reviews, quietly closed on August 8 with an announcement to followers on its Facebook page teasing a renovation and a new menu was on the way. Reached by Eater this afternoon, a front-of-house supervisor named Mary confirmed the changes noting that ownership remained the same. She could not provide any details on what prompted the rebrand.
The updated menu is a "10/10/10" format that focuses on price and efficiency. All items on the daily menu (10 in all) including hamburgers, vegan wraps, and blackened chicken salads are priced at under $10 and designed to be prepared in 10 minutes or less. For fans of Maccabees' brunch and bottomless mimosa deals, fear not. Staff tell Eater the restaurant will be maintaining its popular weekend service.
5057 Viale opens from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday; 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays; and 11 a.m. to midnight Fridays and Saturdays. 313-831-9311. 5057 Woodward Avenue.
