Rock City Eatery’s oft delayed move finally has an endgame. Today chef/owner Nikita Sanches and Jessica Imbronone Sanches announced that they’ll bid farewell to the Hamtramck location in style on August 27 with a final dinner. RCE’s crew will then take the following week to transfer their equipment from Joseph Campau to Woodward Avenue for anticipated September 8 debut.
The eatery known for its risk-taking menu and excellent pies, announced last September that it would be leaving its home of two years and taking over the former Bangkok Cuisine Express in Midtown. While the Hamtramck space provided limited room in the kitchen and a small refrigerator, the new restaurant will offer more kitchen and cold storage, allowing Sanches to expand his menu and execute dishes as he always intended.
The expanded menu is expected to include Joe Bastianich-approved pizzas first teased during the couple’s stint on Restaurant Startup. RCE will also eventually expand service into weekly brunches. The owners have tapped local bartender Liz Cosby to develop Midtown location’s bar program which will have a greater focus on the technical side of craft cocktails such as an ice program, digestifs, and aperitifs. "This is going to really be more grown up," the chef Sanches told Eater during a tour of the Midtown restaurant buildout in July.
RCE is currently taking reservations for its final night in Hamtramck. Call 248-633-3072. The service will be hosted from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. on August 27.
