Fried chicken aficionados brace yourselves for Memphis's favorite Southern fried chicken outlet. After a few delays and several nights of soft opening services, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken swings open on Wednesday. Operated by local franchisee chef/owner Zack Sklar and Smaltz Hospitality the new brick building with its bright yellow and red sign sits at the corner of Third Street and Alexandrine in Cass Corridor.

The 3,000-square-foot restaurant features two and four-top tables with mismatched chairs and checked tablecloths, TVs, and bar seating. While the main event is obviously the house-recipe crispy fried chicken, the restaurant also serves up a variety of sides including fried okra, potato salad, seasoned fries, and pie for dessert. Chicken plates come with white bread, coleslaw, and baked beans. Beer is available in addition to iced tea, lemonade, and soda. Photographers Chris and Michelle Gerard recently scoped out the space during one of its soft opening nights. Take a look inside the new Detroit outpost in the gallery below.
