Look Around Campus Martius's Beachside Shipping Container Restaurant

Patio furniture, umbrellas, and outdoor cocktails

A central hub of downtown activity, Campus Martius Park was for several years home to the Beach Bar & Grill and its finer dining companion Fountain Bistro. However, in February the bistro shuttered and changed hands, ushering in a new era of park dining. The new management 800 Parc are currently stripping down the bistro and reinventing it as an as-of-yet unnamed eatery, but the restaurant group has also ensured that the community could take full advantage of the Campus Martius's urban beach this summer with the unveiling of the city's first shipping container restaurant, Fountain Detroit.

Situated on a wooden platform next to the sand, the repurposed shipping container is fully outfitted with a kitchen and bar that serves everything from frozen margaritas to falafel burgers. Visitors have a choice of seating options from bar side stools to patio furniture and shady umbrella-adjacent four tops. Eater photographers Michelle and Chris Gerard recently visited the new outdoor bar and restaurant. Take a tour in the gallery below.
