You'll have to wait a few more months for The Keep's coffeehouse and bar concept. Operators of the cocktail lounge — which recently moved back underground — had planned to fill the former Cadillac Square-adjacent patio and bar space with a cafe this summer. Reached by email today, manager Leonard Lopp tells Eater that the owners are still developing plans for the new concept that may debut by fall. The venue is expected to serve coffee during the day and an expanded list of aperitifs, coffee cocktails, dessert cocktails, and Michigan craft beers in the evenings.
In the meantime, the subterranean bar isn't letting its vacant patio space go to waste. Lopp says the upstairs space will host The Keep's ongoing bartender pop-up series (there's an event featuring Pour Boys Detroit tonight) and will begin opening seven days a week starting Wednesday with margarita and mojito specials, buckets of beer, and "crafty" jello shots. The partners also expect to introduce kegged cocktails later this season. Downstairs, The Keep is continuing to diversify its menu. Thirsty patrons can look forward to draft cocktails and even more draft beers this summer.
