BOOZE NEWS — Detroit bar historian Mickey Lyons interviews bartenders who've worked their respective jobs for 30 years or more and discusses how "the view from the bar illustrates the story of Detroit’s dynamic transformations." [Model D]

BEER HERE — Jolly Pumpkin is teaming up with lifestyle brand Detroit Surf Co. to create a red IPA. The beer is slated for a mid-summer release and will be available on tap at Mercury Burger Bar and Rust Belt Market in Ferndale. [Crain's]

EVENTWIRE — Pontiac pop-up restaurant Menagerie Kitchen will host Ms. Southern Belle at 6 p.m. on May 14. The event is a collaboration between owner April Forbes and author/storyteller Vickie Brent Touray (VB Touray). The menu features Southern soul food including thyme buttermilk biscuits, watermelon lime mint preserves, apple butter, hushpuppies, braised oxtail, pork scrapple, and a lot more. Tickets are $40. DEVELOPMENTS — Have a business plan you want to put into action? Hatch Detroit is now accepting applications for brick-and-mortar restaurant and retail projects in the city. The deadline is July 15. Winners of the Comerica Hatch Detroit contest receive $50,000 plus an additional $25,000 in branding and logo design from ad agency Team Detroit. The program is also launching a series of workshops in four neighborhoods (June 2 in Hamtramck; June 16 in Jefferson East; June 29 on the Avenue of Fashion; and July 7 in Grandmont-Rosedale).
