After several delays, Rock City Eatery announced today that it's preparing for a spring move to Midtown. The three-year-old Hamtramck restaurant announced last fall that it would take over the former Bangkok Cuisine space on Woodward. The new location will open with both lunch and dinner service.
According to a release the design for the 3,600-square-foot restaurant will reflect the Hamtramck restaurant's aesthetic with some additional touches that recall Detroit's automotive history. "It was important to us that our new location feel the same as what we originally created in Hamtramck," co-owner Jessica Imbronone Sanches says. "Expect an upgraded version." Hudson Industrial in Ferndale is manufacturing steel and reclaimed wood benches for the new RCE. The eatery will also have custom-made bar shelves, exposed brick work, and unfinished walls featuring Detroit music photography. The owners are waiting to set an official opening date. Stay tuned.
