Want to add a copper pineapple to collection of drinking vessels? Intrigued by pricey bottles of tequila? MEX in Bloomfield Hills has created a margarita for you.
So, what makes this margarita fancier than your average cocktail? The drink (available only on Cinco de Mayo) is made with 110-proof Herradura Silver Tequila that retails for $99 per bottle. The premium booze is then mixed with fresh-squeezed citrus, Cointreau, and agave nectar and served in a 24-ounce copper pineapple. We're told the drink is easily sharable between two or three people, though you'll have to decide amongst your friends who gets to take the pineapple home afterwards.
Proceeds from the margarita after cost will be donated to Heart 2 Heart, a nonprofit serving homeless and needy communities in Detroit. Quantities of the pineapples are limited. After they sell out, the beverage may still be purchased for $50. MEX will be serving a limited menu on Cinco de Mayo to pair with the margarita including tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and more.
