Downtown Detroit cocktail bar The Keep is once again undergoing an evolution. Manager Leonard Lopp confirms that the bar has officially moved into an expanded underground space in beneath its previous Cadillac Square location.
"Ever since I saw the basement I knew that was were The Keep needed to be," he says. "The environment is much more comfortable and, of course, larger." Lopp says the new bar features between 25 and 30 cocktails daily and 23 beers. He hopes to see the beer selection grow to 60 options by summer. Patrons can access the new location via a backdoor on Congress Street.
All y'all keep asking about the basement. Well, now you got it. We are officially a basement bar again. What's happening upstairs? Stay tuned. #basementbars #boom #bitch #boombitch

The old street level space won't be left vacant for long. The Keep's partners are developing a cafe concept there, which will serve coffee during the day and an expanded list of aperitifs, coffee cocktails, dessert cocktails, and Michigan craft beers in the evenings. "The goal is to be the spot for pre-dinner drinks and post dinner fun," he adds. The owners don't have an exact timeline for the cafe opening but expect it to debut sometime this summer.
