Northwest Detroit has already seen some big development along the Avenue of Fashion and a new café owner is aiming to extend that progress into the Bagley neighborhood. Detroit Sip is one of several recent recipients of a Motor City Match grant. The shop will offer Detroit-made products including coffee, tea, doughnuts, and pastries.
Owner Jevona Watson tells Michigan Radio she hopes to open a café that's attractive to students at Marygrove College and University of Detroit Mercy. "I see these gated communities and I don't see these students venturing outside of the gates," she says. "I wanted to be one of the pivotal businesses to bring them out and to give them that Detroit experience." Detroit Sip is expected to open this summer. Eater has reached out for more details on the project. Stay tuned.
