After nine years, shawarma slinger Bucharest Grill has officially shut down its Park Bar location, owner Bogdan Tarasov tells Eater. The restaurant will relocate to a new location on East Jefferson during the first week of March.
Since launching in 2006, Bucharest Grill has leased kitchen space in The Park Bar near Comerica Park, making it an exceptionally popular spot for sports fans looking for a inexpensive bite and a drink before the game. However, the growth put pressure on the bar and Tarasov's landlord eventually asked the restaurant to vacate. "They don't really fit the space," a rep for The Park Bar told Eater in January. In its place, owner Jerry Belanger plans to introduce a new Hawaiian concept ahead of Tigers' Opening Day on April 8.
Tarasov believes the new restaurant in the Rivertown Warehouse District will better serve the needs of customers, providing more parking and an expanded 75-seat dining room. In the meantime, diners can still get their Bucharest fix in Corktown and at the restaurant's new location in Milwaukee Junction. Stay tuned for an official opening date.
