After six years, Campus Martius eatery Fountain Bistro will shutter next week. According to a release, the restaurant group 800 Parc has purchased the property from its owners and plans to revamp the space as well as the seasonal Beach Bar and Grill, Rink Side Bar, and Artic Zone. "As an entirely new concept, the new restaurant will be an experience that's unique to the city and help further promote Detroit as a culinary destination," says Matthew Shiffman, a partner in 800 Parc.

The Fountain Bistro, with its uniquely central location and views of the park, debuted downtown in June 2010. Over the past several years the area has experienced tremendous growth with the openings of Townhouse Detroit, Central Kitchen + Bar, The Whiskey Parlor, and more neighborhood restaurants and bars. "Seeing Detroit grow and being part of it firsthand has been a great experience," the restaurant's former owners, John Lambrecht, Kevin Morin, and Matt Morin, say in a joint statement. "When we started Fountain Bistro, we had dreams of the restaurant and the park becoming the most loved gathering place in Detroit. It was a wonderful place before we got involved, but the progress in the last several years has really made it the most incredible place to hang out in the city."

Plans for the name and concept of the new flagship eatery are still being finalized, but the owners say the space will receive a new design, a permanent enclosure for the outside patio, new windows for a more "open air" feel, and a larger kitchen, as well as updated floors, ceiling, and bar. The revamped Beach Bar is expected to reopen in May 5 on March 5 with expanded offerings while the flagship restaurant is under construction. The new concept is slated to debut this summer. Eater is reaching out for more details. Stay tuned.
