One of Detroit’s favorite bakeshops Avalon International Breads is in expansion mode. The company is bringing its signature organic breads, pastries, and cookies to Ann Arbor this month.

In the same vein as the downtown Detroit restaurant announced by Avalon late last year, the Tree City restaurant is dubbed Hearth & Soul Cafe & Kitchen. As MLive reported in October, the eatery is taking over the 5,200-square-foot former Mezzevino space at 129 E. Liberty Street.

A representative for Avalon tells Eater Hearth & Soul Cafe will launch in Ann Arbor by mid-December with the downtown Detroit restaurant slated to follow in early 2017. The restaurant is expected to offer pastries and coffee as well as a full-service breakfast, lunch , and dinner menu.

In other expansion news, Avalon Bakehouse (located at 4731 Bellevue on Detroit’s east side) now features retail. Likewise, the company launched a new quick-grab spot inside Detroit Metropolitan Airport in November. The Harvest Grounds newsstand is located in the C Concourse of the McNamara Terminal and features pastries, grab-and-go sandwiches, and Mighty Good Coffee. Stay tuned for updates on the Hearth & Soul restaurants.
