World's First Applebee’s/IHOP Hybrid Bestowed on Downtown Detroit

An unholy combo if ever there was one

For those with simultaneous cravings for Swedish crepes and a Thai shrimp salad, fear not. Downtown Detroit will soon welcome a combination Applebee’s/IHOP restaurant. Like a mutant straight out of X-Men, this novelty hybrid has the distinction of being the first of its kind in the world, and, folks, we get it all to ourselves.

Per a release, local franchisee TEAM Schostak Family Restaurants (who brought Detroit its first Applebee’s within city limits last fall) is planting the double feature to the Millender Center across from the RenCen. Like its sister Applebee’s on Eight Mile, the Detroit Free Press reports that the restaurant will feature a “Detroit-centric interior design.” It will also house a coffee bar.

The 11,939-square-foot restaurant is expected to break ground in April 2017 with a target grand opening slated for late-2017. Perhaps this new off-menu restaurant combo will inspire fresh material from Das Racist. Then again, hopefully not.

Alongside its Applebee’s and IHOP exploits, TEAM Schostak is the operator of several chains including MOD Pizza and Del Taco. The company also acquired Olga’s Kitchen last winter.
