Inside Bad Luck, Capitol Park’s New Cocktail Hideaway

Illuminati symbols, hexagons, and experimental drinks

Michelle and Chris Gerard

Downtown’s anticipated new cocktail spot, Bad Luck, blazed into Capitol Park on December 8 bringing with it a lineup of carefully curated drinks using premium liquor, priced accordingly. It’s the latest project from growing food and beverage empire the Detroit Optimist Society, whose other establishments include The Sugar House, Wright & Company, The Peterboro, and Super Happy Sushi.

The Bad Luck was more than a year in the making. As with past Detroit Optimist projects, partner Dave Kwiatkowski spearheaded the design for the space which is both intimate at 30 seats and highly detailed with hexagonal patterned-cherry wood lining the high ceilings and hexagonal lights illuminating similarly shaped tables below. A glowing quartz-topped bar lined with five stools is the center piece for the space, with glowing shelves of liquor as its backdrop.

Photographers Chris and Michelle Gerard visited the Bad Luck on its second night of service. Check out all the illuminati-inspired details in the gallery below.
