The Bangladeshi-Italian flavors of Amar Pizza will have a new home in 2017. A tipster tells Eater the Hamtramck takeout favorite famous for its fiery ghost pepper pizza is moving and expanding to a second location. Reached for comment, co-owner Khurshed Ahmed confirmed that the restaurant will be picking up and moving its original operation on Conant Street a few blocks to the corner of Joseph Campau and Carpenter Avenue.

“The last official day we’ll be operating here [on Conant] is New Year’s Eve,” says Ahmed. The owner expects the location to be closed for approximately two weeks placing the reopening around mid-January. Amar, which debuted in 2009, has reached the end of its lease and the property manager decided not to renew. Like the current restaurant on Conant, the new spot that Amar has leased at 12195 Joseph Campau will focus on carryout.

In addition to a new flagship pizzeria, Amar Pizza is expanding to a second restaurant serving the suburbs. That addition will be located near 13 1/2 Mile. “It’s overdue for the expansion,” he says. “I’ve been getting a lot of requests.” Stay tuned for updates.
