Townhouse owner Jeremy Sasson revealed new details today about his forthcoming Capitol Park project. According to DBusiness, the massive modern steakhouse concept, first-reported in March, has been dubbed Prime + Proper and will be joined by an ultra-exclusive underground bar named Cash Only. Birmingham’s McIntosh Poris Associates, which also worked on Townhouse, has been tapped to develop the design.

The meaty 180-seat restaurant will occupy the street-level space currently under construction at the corner of State and Griswold in downtown Detroit. Prime + Proper will feature a bar, raw bar, lounge, and butcher shop, as well as a private dining room and a 100-seat seasonal patio. Chef Michael Barrera, also of Townhouse, is leading the kitchens, which will include serious in-house dry aging and charcuterie programs. Because nothing makes people feel more special than being provided with their own individualized cutlery, regular customers will be provided with “custom steak knives.”

Seemingly catered towards celebrities and high-profile loyal patrons, the 80-seat Cash Only will be located beneath the Prime + Proper accessed through a hidden entrance. “There will be no cell phones, no cameras, and no credit cards in Cash Only,” Sasson explains. “There will be handwritten checks using a quill pen, and we will have interactive cocktails that will cultivate the eyes, nose, and mouth.” Both projects are slated to debut next spring.

The Capitol Park neighborhood is the latest current hotspot for downtown development with Go! Sy Thai and DaEdoardo Restaurant Group both opening eateries on the ground floor of The Albert. The Detroit Optimist Society in partnership with The Sugar House bartender Yani Frye is also expected to launch small, high-end bar called Bad Luck in The Albert this fall.
