Ruth’s Chris Steak House Gambles on Michigan Football, Ends Up Giving Out 50 Percent Discounts

Ann Arbor steak fans were the real winners on Saturday night when Michigan’s football team absolutely crushed Rutgers with a final score of 78-0. As SB Nation reports, a local branch of the steakhouse chain with the world’s most annoying name Ruth’s Chris took a gamble on Friday offering discounts equivalent to the Wolverine’s margin of victory — up to 50-percent off. “Example: Michigan beats Rutgers by 20 points, your discount would be 20% off your food the following Sunday through Thursday.”

Of course, Ruth’s Chris probably didn’t anticipate quite the level of blowout that U-M delivered and thus is eating a steep 50-percent off discount through Thursday. Patrons are taking full advantage of the offer. The restaurant announced Sunday on social media that reservations are fully booked up through Thursday.

Meanwhile, some customers reported frustration with the restaurant and unleashed their complaints about Ruth’s Chris’s handling of the promotion on social media and sites like Yelp (the site’s cleanup crew may not be far away).

Some suggested that the restaurant is not in fact honoring the discount while others alleged that the company altered its original Facebook post to cap the offer at 50-percent off.

For those simply looking for a regular reservation at full price, Eater National is reporting an available table on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
