Zingerman’s Bakehouse Cuts Book Deal; Short’s to Begin Distributing Beyond Michigan

BOOZE NEWS — Michigan-based Short's Brewing Company is aiming to expand beyond Michigan. Founder Joe Short made the announcement in letter to fans today. "We want to continue to grow and do awesome stuff, but we don't want to sell out to investor or another brewery. In order to do what is right for our company and our community, we will begin to sell our beer outside the state of Michigan," Short writes. [Facebook]

BOOK DEALS — Zingerman's Bakehouse owners Amy Emberling and Frank Carollo have cut a book deal. The cookbook, Zingerman's Bakehouse: Recipes for Baking and Business, is expected to hit shelves in Spring Fall 2017. [Publisher's Marketplace]

POP-UPS/COMING ATTRACTIONS — A new Vietnamese concept is aiming to make the leap from pop-up to permanent in Southwest Detroit. Flower of Vietnam is a project by chef George Azar, formerly of Chicago's celebrated Alinea restaurant. The menu currently appears weekly from 7 p.m. to midnight at Vernor Coney Island.
