The G.A.R. Building restaurants are switching things up. Republic will host its final lunch service today, making way for an expanded menu at its sister restaurant, Parks & Rec Diner. Chef Sarah Welch says it simply didn't make sense for both restaurants to compete for the downtown lunch crowd.
Beginning on January 25, Parks & Rec will launch a new weekday lunch specials list (available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday) alongside its regular breakfast menu, featuring a rotating list of of "diner-centric" sandwiches and salad specials. With the changes come updates to Republic's hours. The restaurant will open at 4 p.m. for happy hour Monday through Friday.
Republic is the latest restaurant to migrate away from lunch service. Earlier this week, Gold Cash Gold announced it would do away with lunch hours in order to focus on producing and marketing retail products.
