Detroit's original square pizza slinger, Buddy's Pizza, is headed to Ann Arbor. MLive reports that the company plans to open its twelfth location in the Pittsfield Place development on Ann-Arbor Saline Road. The restaurant will occupy a 6,500-square-foot space next to a UPS store and a nail salon. The new Buddy's location is expected to open later this year.
Buddy's began serving Detroit-style pizza in 1946 at its original location on Conant and 6 Mile. The restaurant is considered the godfather of the Detroit square, with former owners and employees taking their knowledge to other restaurants in the area such as Shield's, Loui's, and Cloverleaf. Buddy's currently operates 11 locations across the metro area.
