Hazel Park's buzziest new addition Mabel Gray opens to the public tonight for dinner service. This is the second restaurant by partners chef James Rigato and Ed Momou, who earned acclaim for White Lake's The Root Restaurant & Bar. Rigato wouldn't offer specifics on the a la carte and tasting menus, but describes the general focus as seasonal, foraged, nose-to-tail ingredients. Mabel Gray will also feature a full bar curated by sommelier Rachel Van Til.
The restaurant has already brought elevated attention to the city of Hazel Park, and is likely to prove a popular spot this weekend when Rigato's fellow Top Chef alumn Mei Lin drops by. Located inside a former Coney Island-style diner, the Ron & Roman design emphasizes contrasts between old and new. Take a look back at the transformation below:

Update, 09/30,5:43 p.m.: Mabel Gray's initial hours are 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For a tasting menu reservation call 248-398-4300 or email eat@mabelgraykitchen.com. Tasting menu prices fluctuate based on the season but average $65/per person plus a $35 beverage pairing. No reservations accepted for a la carte.
