Phoenicia's Samy Eid Craves The Mount Vernon at Redcoat Grilled Crispy

Detroit is home to tons of restaurants, some in plain sight and some hidden gems. To help guide us through the Motor City food world, we've enlisted some of our city's many food luminaries to share with us their recommendations for Dining Confidential.

SamyEid_embed.0.jpgBirmingham restaurateur Samy Eid loves to eat great food. The co-owner of Phoenicia and managing partner in the upcoming reboot of Forest Grill is a fan of everything from Shangri-La dim sum to Noble Fish sushi and Miller's classic burgers. But for a fantastic ham and cheese sandwich Eid recommends Royal Oak's Redcoat Tavern.

[Redcoat] is amazing but I don't even eat a burger there. Anybody who neglects themselves the Mount Vernon in their life should be shot. It is the best sandwich in Michigan... The secret is to order it grilled crispy. Oh my god, that's my happy place. That's a great sandwich. I don't even eat the burger. I mean I love the burger, don't get me wrong. I go there for the Mount Vernon... Fried Clams and a Mount Vernon. I'm in heaven.
