Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin is plotting to bring a dining and live music venue downtown, the singer tells CBS Detroit. "I'm just glad that Detroit came through the bankruptcy with flying colors and I love that the city is enjoying a renaissance now, and I'm going to be part of that renaissance," she says. "I've been downtown with Dan Gilbert's people and I've found a location for myself, so stay tuned. A lot of good stuff coming up."
Franklin, who performed at Chene Park over the weekend, plans to try and entice her record label and perhaps even GM into backing the project, which she describes as an adult "fine dining." The singer expects the venue will open within the next year.
