Rochester roastery and café Dessert Oasis Coffee is readying for a downtown Detroit expansion. Co-owner Nathan Hamood tells Eater his company signed a lease on the Bedrock-managed, 2,500-square-foot space next to Detroit Bikes several weeks ago. "We think Detroit is kind of the perfect place because there's so much happening in Detroit and so much potential for craft coffee," Hamood says.
Hamood describes the café as different from the quick-stop coffee shop. "We can certainly accommodate people that are looking for that, but our focus is on creating a bigger experience" around small batch-roasted coffee. Like the Rochester location, founded in 2009, Detroit's Dessert Oasis Coffee will offer a selection of housemade baked goods and sweets like cheesecake, cookies, muffins, mousse cakes, and crepes. In addition to food and drink, the café will host live music events showcasing local musicians. The owners are currently drawing up designs for the café, but Hamood says they aim to open by late-September or early-October.
