Former Detroit city councilwoman Monica Conyers is suing a Detroit Metropolitan Airport McDonald's for $25,000, reports The Detroit News. Conyers claims she received a cut to her finger after grabbing the underside of a chair in the McDonald's on New Year's Day. According to the court filing:
While pulling herself under the table, Plaintiff felt a sharp pain in the ring finger of her right hand, screamed in pain and jumped out of the seat.
Conyers cut was treated with "sterile alcohol pads and gauze" by paramedics and police, but says she has since lost a fingernail and full use of her hand. The McDonald's is owned former Detroit Lion Jim Thrower's company Jamjomar Inc. Thrower's company operates approximately 14 McDonald's franchises in Michigan and Louisiana.
Conyers is the wife of current U.S. Representative John Conyers. She left city council after one term, having pleaded guilty to corruption charges. She received an early release from federal prison in 2013.
