CONTROVERSIES — Atwater Block Brewery was the site of a National Action Network protest Saturday. The group staged the demonstration to draw attention to the issue of Tangerine nightclub's closure. Tangerine's owner Darnell Small has been embroiled in a series of court battles with landlord Mark Reith of Atwater and Rivertown Holdings. Small contends that Reith is trying to bully him into breaking his rental agreement, so that Atwater can expand into the space. [Metro Times]

NEWS — Bert Dearing, owner of Eastern Market mainstay Bert's Marketplaceconfirms reports that the restaurant's property is facing auction. Dearing says a rough winter and open-heart surgery caused him to fall behind on his mortgage payments resulting in foreclosure. Dearing hopes to buy back the building but says he'll relocate if things don't go his way. The auction is slated for July with a minimum bid of $700,000. [Freep/Crain's]
