Earlier this spring, Eater reported that a new organic brewing venture Neighborhood Brewing Company was working towards opening in Ferndale. The project is still underway, but now under a new moniker thanks to oh-so-common trademark disputes. It seems a New Hampshire-based company was already distributing under the Neighborhood name. Fortunately, the Ferndale venture announced today via Facebook that they received official approval to switch the company's name to Urbanrest Brewing.
We've officially received approval on our shiny new name....Urbanrest Brewing Company. Turns out there was another Neighborhood Beer Co in NH and we aren't exactly equipped to go to war over trademark issues.
The story behind the name: Late 1800's the city of Ferndale was built in to two beautiful communities, Ferndale and Urbanrest and both were stops along the historical wooden path from Fort Detroit to Fort Pontiac. Our location is in the heart of where historical Urbanrest once stood.
While the company still isn't ready to disclose the brewery's location, Urbanrest's owners have been busy setting up the company garden in Center Line. The garden will provide hops as well as veggies for the brewery's menu. Urbanrest plans to open its doors this fall.
