Find high-quality food in a "gorgeous" atmosphere at Jolly Pumpkin without the pretentions writes Kat Rembacki of Core Detroit. Rembacki likes the selection of pizzas prepared on "thin, chewy crusts with just the right amount of char on the bottom." The reviewer recommends the Brussels sprout pizza and the Korean short rib.
The Korean short rib pizza has a craveworthy, well-balanced mix of flavors. Tender, slow-cooked hunks of short rib are accompanied by scallions, mozzarella, black sesame, and arugula tossed that's been tossed in a sesame-soy vinaigrette. The mozzarella is still warm and melty when the pie hits your table, and the first slice you pull away from the pie has that "cartoon cheese" effect that lets you know - your mouth is going to enjoy this.
On this trip, pizza was the primary pursuit. However, Rembacki can imagine selecting one of their sandwiches on a return visit.
