What's going on at Monterrey Cantina in Royal Oak? Monterrey_Cantina_Permit_resize.0.jpgIt seems the 22-year-old restaurant is officially shuttered. Customers may have noticed the torn-up interior and telltale yellow permits hanging in the windows of this Main Street restaurant in recent weeks, causing some to speculate about the possible reasons for the restaurant's closure. However Hometown Life confirms that the eatery will be replaced by a new Mexican restaurant, Mesa.

The paper reports that owners Michael Sophiea of Oak City Grille and Darrel Krause of Woody's Diner and Duggan's Irish Pub have secured a transferred liquor license and permits for patio service and entertainment. Demolition has already begun on the interior. Stay tuned for details on a possible opening date.
