A new bar is headed for downtown Detroit this summer. Crain's reports that Paul Howard, co-owner of Cliff Bell's and the Bronx, is planning to open another neighborhood bar ala the Bronx in the former Biegas Gallery at 35 E. Grand River Ave. The building is across the street from the Detroit YMCA, houses the PuppetArt Theater, and is "steps from the People Mover Broadway station," according to a real estate listing.

Howard isn't interested in sharing the name, but the new watering hole will be approximately 2,000-square-feet with space for 80 guests, 40 more seats on the patio, and "a small kitchen." The owner is currently in the permitting stages of the building process. No name means, no website or social media yet, but stay tuned for more details. Here's to hoping Howard cultivates a new class of no-nonsense bartenders to rival the Bronx Bar's Charleen Dexter.
