Mayor Mike Duggan and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro stopped by Kuzzo's Chicken & Waffles for lunch today following a press conference at the Woodbridge Apartment Community Center. Kuzzo's was the first stop on Duggan and Castro's tour of Detroit's neighborhoods, where the pair explored new opportunities for revitalizing the city.

Secret Service agents milled around the packed restaurant as Duggan and Castro ordered chicken & waffles. Castro went for the Bam Bam (two drumsticks and a waffle) with sweet tea and a side of mac and cheese, while Duggan chose the First Lady (chicken breast and a waffle) with a Diet Coke and a side of mac and cheese.

"This restaurant is a fantastic example of how neighborhoods can be revitalized by collaboration between the public and private sector," Castro told Eater.

The secretary was visiting Detroit today to announce the return of the Detroit Housing Commission to local control, after close to a decade of federal oversight. "It's an important day for us," Duggan said at the press conference. "Once again, the City of Detroit is capable of managing its own affairs."

Special thank you to the mayor of Detroit Mike Duggan for stopping by and having lunch with us.. And having the time to take selfies with our staff
