Norma G's Caribbean Food Truck Rolls into Detroit

Jerk chicken sliders, mac and cheese, and curry await diners who seek out this new food truck.

A year after leaving his longtime job, Lester Gouvia discovered a renewed passion for preparing Caribbean cuisine through his catering business and a shiny new food truck. Gouvia recently received final licensing approval on the mobile restaurant and took the truck out for its first run last Sunday outside of St. CeCe's Pub.

The flavors in Gouvia's food harken back to his family's Trinidadian roots. Norma G's is a reference to the Gouvia's mother who taught him to cook and encouraged him to practice preparing meals for her. Diners will discover a little bit of everything in Norma G's food. Although the menu changes frequently, the list includes items like jerk chicken sliders, mac and cheese, and curry. Dishes are a little bit spicy, but also sweet and smoky. Norma G's will be popping up every Sunday in the St. CeCe's parking lot The owner also hopes to secure a spot on Tuesdays at Eastern Market this summer and has applied to participate in Downtown Street Eats at Cadillac Square.

For updates on Norma G's food truck including the location of Gouvia's next pop-up follow him on Twitter or Facebook.

Correction: Lester Gouvia chose to leave his job. He was not laid-off as previously stated.
