Diamond Jim Brady's is expanding to Ann Arbor. Owner Tom Brady, grandson of the late Jim Brady, has purchased the space previously occupied by Vellum in Ann Arbor for a new restaurant, reports MLive. Additionally, Brady tells the site he plans to open a downtown Detroit location by mid-2016.

Vellum had a short life on Main Street, shuttering in January after only two years of business; however, Brady sees potential in the space and wants to transform it into a 1950s Vegas Rat Pack style restaurant.

"We want to take it all back to the roots," he says. "If you think back to the '50s and '60s, things like hand-making the patty for a burger. Now that's very in-style, but it's something we've been doing for decades."

Most recently, Diamond Jim Brady's announced it would be expanding into Royal Oak and taking over former The Oxford Inn. Brady tells MLive he's aiming for the Ann Arbor location to be open by Winter 2015.
