To the delight of Metro Detroit tea lovers, Eli Tea Bar debuted in December. Although the company supplies both local and international tea blends in many Metro Detroit cafes, for expert brewing tips connoisseurs can now go straight to the source at this Birmingham shop. The location features a combination of light colored woods, black chairs, and bronze details such as the penny mosaic on the bar and the tin ceiling. Photographers Michelle and Chris Gerard provide and inside look at this recent addition to Old Woodward Avenue.

Teas can be purchased in bulk or by the cupful here. Owner Eli Majid is a trained botanist with a passion for bringing wholesome, high-quality herbal cocktails to his customers. Those who want a crash course in the art of brewing and differentiating between Assam and Darjeeling may reserve a coveted spot at the tea tasting table. Classes are held on Fridays and Sunday nights. Majid is planning to expand to downtown or Midtown Detroit sometime this summer, according to Hour Detroit. Eater has reached out to Majid for more details. Stay tuned.

Update, 03/23, 12:15: Eli Majid says he has no plans to expand beyond Birmingham at this time. "Originally, I had my heart set on Midtown/downtown when I was searching for property last year to lease but nothing was available at the time. Right now my focus is making sure the tea bar is a well-oiled machine before expanding."
