The owner of Fountain Bistro in Campus Martius Park is delaying the restaurant's $100,000 renovation project, according to Crain's. Owner Jay Lambrecht announced last week that the restaurant would be saying goodbye to white tablecloths and while changing the overall look and feel of the restaurant to appeal to a younger clientele.
The original plan was to complete the renovations so during scheduled M-1 Rail construction and the closing of the park's popular ice skating rink, Lambrecht says; however the rail's construction timeframe has changed. "We want to stay in line with the construction as much as possible. It didn't make sense for us to close and have no construction around us." The project has been moved to mid-September, a traditionally slow time of year for the bistro.
