Gone are the days where sleazy bars delivered house-made Jell-O shots. Many Metro Detroit clubs are ushering in a new era in party drinks by stocking up on pre-packaged Hot Rabbit gelatin shots. They've been featured at restaurants, bars, and retail locations around town including Sabrage, Bleu Nightclub, Fountain Bistro, Vivio's, and Shores Canteen and are now planning a nationwide invasion according to DBusiness.
The Michigan-based company recently passed along a few of these shots to Eater Detroit and, full disclosure, we tried them. The shots come in six flavors: apple, orange, grape, cranberry, peach, and raspberry. Although we're not huge connoisseurs of the sweet cocktails beverages let alone shots preserved in jelly, they weren't terrible. More disconcerting is the company's bizarre marketing campaign that will make you run straight for the soap and water. Their website isn't much better offering truly creepy descriptors ("Orange your going to pull my top off?" Eww no.). Hot Rabbit manages to sexualize the most mundane things.
