As Motor City Gas opens today, it looks like another Royal Oak distillery is making progress. The Five Lakes Distillery, owned by Keith Reid and Craig Schlicht, was approved for a Small Distiller License in January that will allow them to produce and sell spirits on the premises. In their application, Five Lakes says they expect to spend $5,000 on their tasting room. Reid told Hometown Life in January that the distillery will try to repurpose unused farm goods in their vodka.

There is a lot of wasted farm goods that get thrown out because it's unattractive and unappealing, and we are hoping to take that waste product and make something out of it.

On Monday, a small team of workers were busy painting the building's interior. Five Lakes doesn't have an opening date.
