Last week Midtown Detroit Inc.'s Sue Mosey confirmed that the short-lived Midtown gelato and espresso shop, Melt, had shuttered. Now former owner Aaron Haithcock and the landlords are seeking a buyer for the business "in as whole a form as possible" he tells Eater. "We [are] trying to find someone who will negotiate some price for taking control of the place as is, instead of selling off the equipment piecemeal."

When asked why Melt closed after less than two years in operation, Haithcock says a series of events placed pressure on his fledgling business.

Construction was five months behind to begin with, so we missed the entire summer of 2013 and didn't open until almost November. Then the two harshest winters on recent record happened. It didn't help that we were the only tenants in the building until two months ago basically. Once construction of M1-Rail started, that was the final nail in the coffin.

Haithcock says there are several parties interested in the space, but nothing is concrete yet. Potential buyers can reach out for more information at melt.gelato@yahoo.com or by phone at 313-310-1131. There's currently no listing available for the space. Stay tuned for more details.

Update, 03/11, 4:16 p.m.: Additional information regarding Melt's closure has been added to this post.
