Known for its surf-and-turf menu, East English Village's Blue Pointe restaurant will shutter tonight, on the eve of its liquor liability insurance due date, according to The Detroit Free Press. Owner David Muer tells Sylvia Rector, he has struggled in recent years to keep up with the bills due to a significant drop in daily sales.
It was a good run ... I want to stress that Detroit has been very good to me. I raised a family of eight with this place and been my own boss for 33 years ... I've had a very good life, and it was provided by a business in Detroit, and I'm very, very happy to be here.
Muer says he tried to keep the closure under wraps, preferring to let his old-school restaurant go "quietly into the night."
