Despite the growth in opportunities for some would-be Detroit restaurateurs, few outsiders (with the exception of Antietam's out-of-town recruits) are making their move to the Motor City. Enter Katoi: A food truck turned brick and mortar eatery, coming to Corktown. While the concept for Katoi is homegrown, the owners are thinking beyond Detroit. This week, two large billboards with the message "Detroit: Now Hiring." were raised in New York City with two more to come, according to The Detroit News.
Restaurant partner Courtney Henriette tells the paper that Katoi will mainly employ Detroiters. The out of town billboards are primarily meant to draw attention to the opportunities available in the renaissance city. The restaurant's owners are in the process of ordering supplies, Henriette tells Eater and, as the billboards mention, they've begun hiring staff.
