Serena Maria Daniels digs Mudgie's expansion: "The bar area adds an air of elegance, when coupled with dim lighting and the easy listening of jazz music, make for the perfect date night hideaway," the critic expounds. Of the recently introduced comfort foods, Daniels writes that, "[Greg] Mudge sticks with his ethos of giving guests that homemade quality in the small, but focused menu." She notes that, "The roasted turkey with turkey gravy rivals anything Grandma made for Thanksgiving. The white meat is juicy as hell," and "the meatloaf is another win." [Metro Times]

Molly Abraham resists nostalgia at Beverly Hills Grill: The restaurant's "longevity is especially impressive because the Grill does not just go through the motions, but provides a quality experience with high standards in food and service," she writes. "Unlike some restaurants that have been around for decades, the Grill is anything but stodgy. It has managed to stay up-to-date and nostalgia is not part of its appeal." Of the recent revamp, Abraham notes that, "It's the right kind of facelift, one that refreshes while preserving the original look and comfortable feel of the place." While the eatery is still noisy at full capacity, the updates have helped dampen some of the din. Abraham bestows fours stars on Beverly Hills Grill. [Detroit News]
