Update: A tipster tells Eater that bartender Gabe Azzopardi has been given permission to open Casey's one last time for Sunday's Lions game.

Did Casey's Pub on Michigan Avenue shutter on New Year's? Most signs point to yes. While the bar owners could not be reached for comment, several messages from fans posted to the bar's Facebook page as well as a post from fellow Irish pub, McShane's Pub & Whiskey Bar, suggest that the neighborhood bar closed New Years.

A visit to the bar today found it closed during business hours and an unfortunately-worded, clearly tampered message on the pub's sign. The old school sports bar featured a wooden bar with baseball memorabilia and, like many Corktown bars, it was an important spot for nightlife on St. Patrick's Day.
