1) Canton: Fractured Prune Doughnuts, a popular franchise from Ocean City, Maryland, opened its first Michigan location this summer. The shop offers made-to-order doughnuts. Customers can choose from 15 specialty glazes and 15 toppings for a practically endless assortment of mouthwatering combinations. Status: Certified Open. 47192 Michigan Avenue, (734) 340-9145
2) Ferndale: Holding one of only two licenses in the State of Michigan that allows food, cigars, and liquor to be sold on one menu, Secreto Cigar Vault recently opened its doors. While they're not yet serving a full menu, the restaurant's bar and in-house humidor are ready for customers interested in complementing their favorite tobacco with a specially crafted beverage. Status: Soft Open. 315 W Nine Mile Road, (248) 542-4427.
3) Madison Heights: If Alton Brown taught us anything, it's that good food comes down to simple chemistry. Nice Modern Creamery, a new ice cream shop in Madison Heights takes that point to heart, by crafting tasty concoctions using liquid nitrogen right before customers' eyes. The process prevents crystals from forming, creating a super smooth experience, owner Dan Bora tells C & G News. Weird kitchen science makes this worth the visit. Status: Certified Open. 31055 John R Road, (248) 588-1180.
