Every year Metro Detroit entrepreneurs vie for a shot at $50,000 to help get their ideas off the ground by competing in the Hatch Detroit Contest. The 2012 winner was La Feria, an intimate Spanish tapas restaurant in Midtown that won over Detroiters almost immediately, while last year the not-yet-open Batch Brewing in Corktown took home the prize. This year's Top 10 semi-finalists were revealed in a reception at Ford Field on Wednesday and what many of the contenders showed was a love for food.

Nearly all of this year's semi-finalists are hoping to open a restaurant, serve sweet treats or have their beverages used in some of Detroit's most popular cocktail lounges and watering holes. They all showcased their recipes inside the Hall of Legends suite, overlooking the field where the Lions were playing a pre-season game.

Here's a list of the semi-finalists. Eater Detroit will be tracking their progress as they compete in the Hatch Off on Aug. 20. Regardless of who wins, each Hatch hopeful has already formulated an action plan to get their businesses up and running, so most of these names will no doubt be seen around town in the months to come.
