Chef Justin Vaiciunas of The Jefferson House has been working to open his newest restaurant, Top Of The Pontch, for months, and the much-hyped restaurant was set for an official opening this weekend when plans suddenly changed. An announcement on Facebook moved the opening date back, with minimal explanation:

"Due to final details we will not be opening on September 1st. We are pushing the new opening date to September 9th. We are offering a soft open September 5th and September 7th. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please contact 313-782-4313 for questions and reservations, also open table to make any reservations."

Fortunately, "final details" doesn't sound dire, though the most recent pictures posted to Facebook suggest there is still quite a bit of work to be done. With the soft opening just a few days away, the dining room is still under maps and the full menu has yet to be revealed.

However, in a recent conversation with Sylvia Rector of the Detroit Free Press, Vaiciunas shares that the dining room will be a mix of hyper modern and old (think a waterfall feature and tables made from the reclaimed wood of Detroit homes). As for the menu, he will have two, a seasonal menu and a tasting menu, changing monthly.
