Get first crack at tasting Michigan's newest class of award-winning wines. This evening, August 14th in East Lansing at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center, the best of Michigan wines will be celebrated at the Gold Medal Michigan Wine Reception. The August 5th meeting of the 37th Annual Michigan Wine Competition awarded eight "best of class" winners from a field of fifty-one state wineries, with 450 wines entered for judging.

Each "best of class" wine will be available to try with perfectly paired food bites prepared in house by the Kellogg Center chefs. Many other wine winners (double gold, gold and silver medals) can also be sampled. Winemakers and winery representatives will be on hand to mingle and answer questions.

This year's Best of Class categories and winners are as follows:

Dry White Wine - Blustone Vineyards - 2013 Riesling
Dry Red Wine - Peninsula Cellars - 2012 Cabernet Franc
Semi-Dry White Wine - Gill's Pier Vineyard & Winery - 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling
Semi-Dry Red Wine - Lawton Ridge Winery - 2012 AZO Red
Sparkling Wine - Aurora Cellars - 2011 Brut
Dessert Wine - Black Star Farms - 2012 Arcturos Winter Harvest Riesling
Fruit Wine - 45 North Vineyard & Winery - Peach Cremant
Rosé Wine - Chateau de Leelanau - 2013 Cabernet Franc Rosé

A trophy presentation will lead off the party at 5pm. For a full list of all the medal winners or to purchase tickets ($40 in advance, $45 at the door), visit the official website. -By Hannah Lowe
